Springfield Mass. -- Senior forward Katie Mantie scored the winning goal in the first half in leading the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Wellesley College this afternoon at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex.
With the win, SC raised its record to 5-3-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. The Wellesley Blue fell to 2-7-2 overall, 1-2-0 in the NEWMAC.
Mantie's goal was unassisted and was scored unassisted from the right side at 27:57 into the game.
The second goal came well into the second half. Junior midfielder Courtney LeTourneau also scored unassisted at 63:21. She took advantage of a turnover, then fired the ball in from 25 yards out.
The final goal was scored at 87:08 by sophomore forward Kim Rasmussen. The assist went to junior defender Britt Edwards.
Springfield junior goalkeeper Erin Greenstein registered the shutout, but was not credited with a save. For Wellesley, freshman goalkeeper Claire Cerda registered five saves. They each played 90 minutes.
Up next, Springfield will play at Smith Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4 pm. Wellesley is also back in action on Tuesday, hosting Wheaton at 4pm.
