Blue Soccer Falls to Clarkson in Season Opener

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Clarkson's Nikki Carfi tallied a goal and two assists leading the hosts to a 3-1 victory over Wellesley in non-conference soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The game served as the season opener for both squads.

Wellesley senior LJ Foster got the lone goal for the Blue, for her first score of the season. Senior Emily Wilson added an assist on Foster's goal. For Clarkson, Carfi finished with 4 points on the afternoon, while Aubrey Harris and Hailey Hider each added scores for the Knights.

Clarkson got on the board first, tallying their first goal in the 27th minute. Carfi connected on a pass from Ashley DeHond to make it 1-0. The hosts made it 2-0 early in the second half, with a Carfi corner kick finding the head of Hider, who knocked it into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage in the 52nd minute.

Wellesley's Foster cut the lead to 2-1in the 53rd minute, handling a cross from Wilson. Clarkson responded 12 minutes later to take a 3-1 lead, as Harris scored for the Knights.

The Blue rattled off two shots and two corner kicks in the final 25 minutes but weren't able to add to their score, setting the final to 3-1 Clarkson.

The Knight's Kim Kenline picked up the victory in goal, recording four saves. Wellesley's Claire Cerda added three stops in a losing effort.

Wellesley continues its New York trip tomorrow, heading to St. Lawrence for a 12:00pm match-up. Clarkson also plays tomorrow, hosting Cortland State at noon.
