Wellesley Soccer Falls to Springfield on Senior Day

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Springfield College sophomore Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) scored a natural hat trick to lead the visiting Pride past Wellesley College soccer, 7-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) decision on Saturday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

The Pride, who also got a three save shutout game from sophomore goalkeeper Bridget O'Connor (Hanover, Mass.), improve to 9-2-1 overall (4-1-0 NEWMAC). The Blue are now 4-8-0 on the season (1-4-0 NEWMAC).

Dale's first goal of the game came 9:10 into the first half, when she finished with a header on a cross from first year Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.). Dale netted her second goal at 18:08 on a cross from senior Chrissy Conley (Bristol, R.I.) before finishing her hat trick just 2:44 later when she scored on a cross from junior Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.). Springfield took the 3-0 lead into halftime.

Swetland set-up the fourth Springfield goal in the opening minute of the second half, finding sophomore Maggie Barden (Swampscott, Mass.) after the opening kick-off to make the score 4-0. After picking up a pair of assists, Swetland found the net herself in the 68th minute, scoring her ninth of the year on an assist from sophomore Heather Jennato (Hookset, N.H.).

Malick and first year Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) added the sixth and seventh Pride goals. Malick dribbled up the field for an unassisted goal at 75:44, bringing the score to 6-0. Smith sealed the game at 80:14 to send the Pride past the Blue, 7-0.

Wellesley senior goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) put up 10 saves on 17 shots as Springfield finished the game with a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Wellesley hosts MIT in NEWMAC play on Tuesday, October 15, at 3:00PM. Springfield travels to Amherst on Monday, October 14, for a 4:00 PM start.
