Wellesley Soccer Drops Season Finale at Babson, 3-1

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- First year Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.) netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season but Wellesley College soccer dropped a 3-1 final to New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Babson College on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson remains in the hunt for a spot in the NEWMAC postseason, improving to 7-8-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the NEWMAC. Wellesley ends the season with a 4-12-1 record (1-8-1 NEWMAC).

The first half ended with Wellesley leading in shots, 14-6, but Babson leading on the scoreboard, 1-0. After 35 minutes of scoreless action, Babson first year Maria Colon Figueroa (Needham, Mass.) netted her first career goal with an unassisted marker at 35:36.

With Babson leading 1-0 to start the second half, Blue senior goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) kept the Blue in the game with a pair of big saves. First, Reckley shut down Maggie McCabe's (Weston, Mass.) chip from 18 yards out after a pass skipped past a Wellesley defender. Reckley then denied Sydney McLaughlin (Sherborn, Mass.) at the neat post just over a minute later to keep the score at 1-0.

Feldgoise tied the game less than a minute later, as a reckless tackle in the Babson penalty area earned the Blue a penalty kick. The first year forward calmly finished her first career attempt from the spot to tie the game at 48:18.

Unfortunately for the Blue, Babson found the answer in the 62nd minute, retaking its one-goal advantage when senior Maya King (Auburndale, Mass.) scored her first of the season on a looping header set-up by Scarlet Broderick (Middlebury, Conn.) on a Babson corner. Babson junior Addie Lalor (Washington, D.C.) put the game away with her third of the season at 81:45. Lalor made the score 3-1 when she finished with a volley on a cross set-up by Kate Ryan (Winchester, Mass.) and Julia Janikies (Coventry, R.I.).

Wellesley finished the game with a 15-14 advantage in shots but Babson had a 10-7 lead in shots on goal. Reckley made seven saves in her final collegiate game, dropping to 4-10-1 overall. Babson first year goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) turned aside six shots in the win (7-8-2). 

Today's match ends the 2019 season for the Blue Soccer team. Babson will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 2, with a 1:00 PM contest at Mount Holyoke.
