WORCESTER, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer lost its NEWMAC opener 1-0 to WPI on Saturday at H.Carr Field.
Sophomore Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, Md.) scored for the Engineers (3-3 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC) at the 41:29 mark of the first half. A cross from first year Maeve Steckley (Rochester, N.Y.) led to a scramble, allowing Allmon to tap the ball into the lower right side of the net.
Sophomore goalie Sascha Fleesler (New York, N.Y.) earned a pair of saves for the Blue (1-2 Overall, 0-1 NEWMAC) in the setback and classmate Elina Saab-Sundén (Stockholm, Sweden) had two shots on goal.
WPI outshot Wellesley 10-4 and the Engineers took five corner kicks while the Blue took two. WPI goalie Lili Hellerman (Ashland, Mass.) stopped a pair of shots.
The Blue finish up a two-game road trip tomorrow at Trinity (Conn.) for a 1:00 PM contest. WPI travels to Wheaton for a NEWMAC matchup on Tuesday, September 19 at 4:00 PM.
