Blue Soccer Ties 2-2 Against Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Sophomore Elina Saab-Sundén (Stockholm, Sweden) had a goal and an assist for Wellesley College soccer (2-3-2 Overall, 1-1-1 NEWMAC) in a 2-2 tie against NEWMAC opponent Babson on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

The Beavers (4-2-2 Overall, 2-0-1 NEWMAC) took an early lead when senior Cassie Lawson (Davie, Fla.) scored at the 6:02 mark on a volley off of a pass from classmate Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) and junior Jordyn Ferrantino (Millis, Mass.). Later, Ferrantino converted on a cross from the right side of the box to increase Babson's lead to 2-0 at the 21:46 mark. Graduate student Morgan Krauss (Belmont, Mass.) and junior Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) both assisted on the play.

Wellesley senior Paige Sangston (Greenwich, Conn.) found the net on a rebounded shot to cut the Babson lead in half at the 29:22 mark. Saab-Sundén registered the assist on the play.

At the 62:38 mark, Saab-Sundén tucked a kick into the upper left corner of the goal to tie the game at 2-2 for the Blue. First year Dika KC (Houghton, Mich.) recorded the assist on the play.

Sophomore Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) earned eight saves for Wellesley in goal while classmate Sascha Fleesler (New York, N.Y.) stopped three shots. Babson goalies Nora Ryan (Abington, Mass.) and Callahan Cottone (Medway. Mass.) combined for five saves.

The Beavers outshot the Blue 19-11, with Babson attempting five corner kicks and Wellesley taking two.

The Blue return home on Wednesday, October 4 to face NEWMAC rival Mount Holyoke at 4:00 PM while the Beavers make the trip to Bowdoin tomorrow for a 2:00 PM non-conference game.
