Springfield Gets Past Blue Soccer on Senior Day, 2-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to give Springfield a 2-0 NEWMAC win over Wellesley College soccer on Saturday at Wellesley Fields Complex.

Prior to the game Wellesley acknowledged ten seniors for their contributions to the Blue. The seniors honored were Lauren Park (Richmond, Va.), Helen Bauer (Pebble Beach, Calif.), Remi Fernandez (Valencia, Spain), Diva KC (Greensboro, N.C.), Alyssa Ing (Irvine, Calif.), Thea Feldgoise (Brookline, Mass.), Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.), Cindy Zeng (Mill Creek, Wash.), Paige Sangston (Greenwich, Conn.), and Marina Andreadis (San Francisco, Calif.).

McGrath gave the Pride (7-4-3 Overall, 6-2-1 NEWMAC) the lead at the 20:57 mark with a shot from the right side of the arc the cross into the back left corner of the net. Classmate Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) assisted on the play.

McGrath tallied a second goal at the 34:45 mark, again targeting the bottom left corner of the goal, this time assisted by Natalya Pennant (Windsor, Conn.).

Junior Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) had a clean sheet in goal for the Pride, with 12 assists. Sophomore Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) stopped six shots for the Blue (3-5-5 Overall, 2-3-4 NEWMAC). Wellesley outshot Springfield 24-16 and the Blue took five corner kicks while the Pride took one.

Wellesley's best goal-scoring opportunity came in the second half when sophomore Alisha Faheem (New York, N.Y.) nearly converted on a bicycle kick. Ryan slid in for the save to keep Wellesley off the scoreboard.

The Blue will finish off a two-game homestand against MIT at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25 while the Pride host Babson at 7:00 PM on the same day.
