Wellesley Tennis Competes Strong at NEWITT

AMHERST, Mass. – The Wellesley tennis completed a strong showing at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) this past weekend.  Wellesley was represented by six players, divided up into pairs for a doubles match and two singles match each round.

Competing for the Blue at number one were Jen Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale, IL) and Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD), at two Marie Watanabe (Houston, TX) and Nathalie Herman (San Francisco, CA) teamed up, and in the third spot, Meghan Stubblebine (Cumming, GA) and Katie Ching (Kaneohe, HI) paired up.

Schwarzkopf and Siddique advanced to the quarterfinal round before falling to the Amherst pair of Natasha Brown and Brittany Berckes while Watanabe and Herman opened play with a win before falling to Amherst.  In the "B" draw, Stubblebine and Ching advanced to the quarterfinals before dropping a decision to Williams.

Wellesley is next in action as the number one seed in the 2008 NEWMAC Championships held at Mount Holyoke.  The Blue have a first round bye and will take on the winner of Babson and Mount Holyoke on Sunday at 9:30am.
