Wellesley Tennis Downs Brandeis, 8-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis team picked up their 17th win of the season, downing Brandeis University, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon in Keohane Sports Center.  The match marked the final regular season home match for Wellesley seniors Jen Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale, IL) and Katelyn Ching (Kaneohe, HI). 

Wellesley improves to 17-5 on the season, while Brandeis falls to 8-5.

The Blue swept the doubles competition, as Marie Watanabe (Houston, TX) and Grace Cheng (Columbia, MD) improved their dual match record to 15-1 on the season with an 8-3 victory in the first flight against Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, FL) and Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, TX).  In the second flight, the tandem of Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD) andJacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta) won 8-3 over Gabrielle Helfgott (Newton, MA) and Nina Levine (Westport, CT).  Wrapping up doubles, Schwarzkopf and Ching paired up for an 8-2 victory over Brandeis' Ariana Sanai (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Emily Weisberger (Wayne, NJ).

In singles action, Watanabe was a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 winner over Rosman at one.  Brandeis got on the board at the second doubles spot as Helfgott took a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 match from Cheng.  Wellesley swept the third through sixth spots, as Siddique won 6-3, 6-3, Schwarzkopf was a 6-1, 6-4 winner, Shen won 6-1, 6-1 and Ching claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory to seal the 8-1 win for Wellesley.

Wellesley tennis is back in action on Saturday at 11:00am as the #19 Blue travel to #6 Amherst. Brandeis takes the court again hosting Connecticut College on April 15th at 3:30pm.
