Wellesley Tennis Falls in NCAA Regional Semifinals
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis team ended the 2009 campaign with a 5-0 loss to Middlebury in the NCAA Regional Semifinals at Williamstown. The Blue end the season with an 18-6 overall record.
Middlebury put themselves up 3-0 after hard fought doubles play. While the Panthers recorded wins at courts two and three by 8-4 scores, Elizabeth Stone and Chandra Kurien earned that third point at court one over Wellesley's Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD) and Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta) in a tiebreak, 9-8(2).
Only needing two singles matches for the victory, Middlebury wrapped up the victory with Kurien and Stone, taking wins at courts two and three. Kurien won 6-1, 6-3 over Siddique, while Stone defeated Shen, 6-3, 6-1. When play was halted, Wellesley'sJennifer Schwartzkopf (Hinsdale, IL) held a 6-4, 4-3 lead over Middlebury's Clare Burke.
Middlebury will face off against the Williams/Vassar winner tomorrow at noon. The Blue end the season with the loss.
