Tennis Tops Clark on the Road, 8-1
Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Wellesley College swept the singles matches en route to an 8-1 win in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Blue improved to 3-0 with the win, including a 2-0 ledger in conference action, while the Cougars have dropped back-to-back matches to slip to 4-5 and 0-2 in league play.

Things started out well for Clark as Gaby Suriano and Phoebe Hughes won 9-7 at No. 1 doubles over Catherine Matulis and Suzanne Barth.

That, however, would prove to be the only points the Cougars would be able to muster, as Erica Choo and Joyce Chen knocked off Maggie Swann and Sarah Sachs, 8-5 at No. 2. Abby Esrock and Veronica Lin teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-2 over Paola Anasi and Martha Ziemer to send Wellesley into singles action with a 2-1 edge.

Choo and Suriano battled in a three-set marathon at No. 1 that saw Choo come out on top, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 for the only match that wasn't a straight set win for the Blue.

Sojung Lee defeated Sachs, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Esrock posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Swann at No. 4. Matulis had little trouble with Hughes at No. 3, collecting a 6-0, 6-0 win and the same was the case for Barth over Anasi at No. 5. Chen also recorded an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Martha Ziemer at No. 6 to complete the win for the Blue.

Clark will have an extended break and won't return to team action until Tuesday, October 2 at Mount Holyoke, while Wellesey returns to the courts on Sunday with a match-up against national power Williams College.
