Blue Tennis Competes at ITA Regional

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team competed at the 2012 ITA Regional Tournament hosted by MIT on Friday. The Blue sent three singles players and two doubles teams, with both doubles pairs advancing out of the first round.

The team of Diana Granger and Sojung Lee posted an 8-3 win over MIT's Julia Hsu and Vinnie Kong in the round of 32. Their teammates, Suzanne Barth and Catherine Matulis also picked up a first round win, defeating Savannah Mosser and Lacey Russell 9-8, in a thriller.

In the doubles round of 16, Granger and Lee fell to #1 seed, Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker of Williams, 8-2. Barth and Matulis also fell to a seeded team, dropping an 8-1 decision at the hands of Melita Ferjanic and Hillary Hoyt of Trinity.

In singles play, Granger fell to Bowdoin's Chantalle Lavertu, 6-3, 6-3, while Lee fell to Amherst's Jennifer Newmac, 6-0, 6-1. Erica Choo also competed, falling to MIT's Lauren Quisenberry, 6-0, 6-0.

The Wellesley tennis team now returns to dual meet action, hosting NEWMAC-rival MIT on Tuesday, at 5:00pm.
