NORTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team snapped Wheaton College's four-match winning streak on Tuesday afternoon, as the Blue picked up a 6-3 decision on the road at Wheaton's Clark Tennis Courts.

In a match between two teams who have combined to win the league's last eight regular season and tourney titles, the Blue improved to 5-2 and 4-1, while Wheaton fell to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in league play.

The guests jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles play. At one, Wellesley junior Diana Granger and sophomore Sojung Lee topped Wheaton junior Lyndsay Cooke and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe, 8-5 in the closest of the three matches.

The other two doubles matches were not as close. Wellesley junior Erica Choo and sophomore Joyce Chen doubled up Wheaton juniors Morgan Bell and Sarah Crom in the second spot, while at three, first-year Suzanne Barth and sophomore Veronica Lin topped Wheaton's third pair, 8-1.

In singles play, the teams split the six matches, with Wellesley winning in the third, fourth and fifth positions. Barth yielded just one game in a straight-set win at five, junior Catherine Matulis surrendered only two games in the fourth spot, and Lee turned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bell at three.

Wheaton got their points at one, two and six. Cooke notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Granger at one, Marlowe defeated Choo by a 7-5, 6-3 count in the second slot, while senior Jesse Boggis won 6-3, 6-4 at six.
