Tennis Wraps Up Play at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Wellesley College tennis team wrapped up play at the three-day Bowdoin Invitational on Sunday. The Blue picked up six singles wins on the final day of action, squaring off against competition from Bowdoin, Bates, and the University of Rochester.

Wellesley ended the day with a 6-3 record, running its weekend total to 22 wins between singles and doubles.

First-years Ann Martel and Suzanne Barth each ended the tournament undefeated in singles play. Martel capped the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rochester's Emily DePerrior, while Barth picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bates' Emma Blakeley.

Sophomore Sojung Lee and junior Diana Granger each picked up singles wins today, while also ending the tournament undefeated in doubles play. Lee was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Bates' Elena Mandzhukova, the 29th-ranked player in the nation, while Granger topped Cara Genbauffe of Rochester, 6-4, 6-3.

Also picking up singles wins today were junior Catherine Matulis and sophomore Joyce Chen. Matulis battled Rochester's Molly Goodman, defeating her 7-6, 6-2, while Chen was an easy 6-0, 6-0 winner over Rochester's Leah Bowden.

In other singles action, senior Elena Bowen dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to Bates' Emma Matson, junior Erica Choo fell to Molly Gallagher of Bowdoin, 6-2, 6-3, while first-year Abby Esrock retired against Rochester's Janice Zhao.

Wellesley tennis now returns to dual meet action, hosting NEWMAC-rival Babson on Tuesday at 5:00pm.
