#3 Williams Too Much for Wellesley Tennis

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The #3 ranked Williams College tennis team proved to be too much for #28 Wellesley College, as the Blue dropped on non-conference road match-up to the Ephs, 9-0, on Sunday. The win improves Williams to 2-0 on the season, while Wellesley suffers its first loss of the season, moving to 2-1.

Williams swept doubles, starting with an 8-1 win from Rebecca Curran and Mia Gancayco at one, defeating senior Sojung Lee and sophomore Carina Chen. At two, the Ephs Maria Pylypiv and Alex Stone were 8-3 winners over sophomore Andjela Stojkovic and first-year Caroline Hsu. Wrapping up the doubles points, Julia Cancio and Juli Raventos picked up an 8-2 win over sophomore Samantha Stone and first-year Victoria Wu.

In singles, Williams grabbed each match in straight sets to set the final to 9-0. Linda Shin topped Lee, 6-2, 6-0, at one, and Pylypiv was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Stojkovic at two. Raventos was a 6-2, 6-2, winner over Chen at three, while Gancayco topped Hsu, 6-1, 6-2, at four. Completing the ladder, Curran defeated Stone, 6-1, 6-1, at five, and Cancio topped first-year Emily Olson, 6-2, 6-0, at six. 

Wellesley will now resume NEWMAC play, heading to MIT on Saturday at 1:00pm for a rematch of the last three NEWMAC Championship finals.
