WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 19 Brandeis University swept past visiting Wellesley College tennis, 9-0, in a non-conference match on Friday evening.

With the win, the fourth in a row for the Judges, Brandeis improves to 7-4 overall. The setback snaps a four-match win streak for the Blue, dropping the squad to 9-4 overall on the season.

Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and first years Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) dropped an 8-1 decision to sophomore Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I.) and senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine) at No. 1 doubles. The Judges also picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3, where senior Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and first year Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill.) defeated senior Rosanne Hu (Sugar Land, Texas) and first year Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas).

The Judges earned a big win in the No. 2 doubles match, with junior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus) and senior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J.) helping the hosts take a 3-0 lead heading into singles with a tiebreaker victory. The duo defeated Blue junior Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) and first year Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.), 8-7 (8-6).

Peng would also fall in a tough match in singles, dropping the No. 3 match to Khromchenko, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Brandeis swept each of the remaining singles matches in two sets to clinch the victory, the Judges' sixth straight over the Blue dating back to the 2012-13 season.

The Blue take on another tough non-conference opponent on Saturday at Wellesley, when the team welcomes nationally-ranked Skidmore at 1:00 PM. Brandeis will host NYU tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
