Blue Tennis Concludes Fall Season at NEWITT

NORTHAMPTON & HOLYOKE, Mass. -  Wellesley College tennis wrapped up their fall season on Saturday at Smith and Mount Holyoke.

In the "B" draw quarterfinals junior Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and first year Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) took on sophomores Lili and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, Ill.) of Smith. Alviar opened with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lili Goshgarian, while Clara Goshgarian defeated Pak 6-1, 2-6, 10-5. The Blue rallied in doubles, with Alviar and Pak winning 8-2 to advance to the "B" draw semifinals.

Alviar and Pak took on Babson first year's Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) and Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) in the "B" draw semifinals. The Blue won doubles in a narrow 8-7(7-5) match. Babson battled back with Keitt defeating Park 6-0, 6-2 and Stasiowska beating Alviar 6-2, 6-1 to advance Babson to the finals.

In the "B" draw consolation quarterfinals junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) took on senior Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) and sophomore Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) of Endicott. The Blue were victorious, advancing to the semifinals of the "B" raw consolation bracket. Endicott won doubles 8-6, but Cristiana defeated Martinelli 6-2, 6-2 and Cristiana held on 2-6, 7-6, 10-8 to push Wellesley into the consolation semifinals.

In the consolation semifinals, the DeAgazios took on sophomore Annika Chai (London, England) and first year Jaskirat Kaur (Mohali, India) of Mount Holyoke. The Lyons defeated the Blue 8-7(7-5) in doubles. Cristiana won her matched 6-3 when Chai retired. Bella withdrew from her match down 6-5 in the first set due to injury, ending the duo's weekend.

For the "C" draw quarterfinals Wellesley's duo of senior Celeste Tran (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) matched up against first years Madison Bolig (Charleston, S.C.) and Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) of Trinity. Brennan and Bolig defeated with Bolig beating Fan 6-3, 6-4, and Brennan beating Tran 6-2, 6-1, while the Blue won 8-4 in doubles.
