No. 3 Blue Tennis Advances to NEWMAC Semifinals with 5-0 Win Over No. 6 Mount Holyoke

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The No. 3 seeded Wellesley College tennis team cruised to a 5-0 victory over No. 6 seed Mount Holyoke in the First Round of the 2023 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Wellesley Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Blue advance to the NEWMAC Semifinals and will face No. 2 seed MIT on Saturday at 12:00 PM in Cambridge, Mass.

Juniors Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) earned the first point for Wellesley in emphatic fashion, winning 8-0 against MHC first years Kennedy Bagley-Fortner (Montclair, N.J.) and Kate Vavra (Weston, Mass.).

The Blue increased its lead to 2-0 when first years Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) collected an 8-1 win against senior Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and first year Cal Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Wellesley's No. 1 doubles pairing of juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) were not far behind, completing the 3-0 sweep of doubles for Wellesley with an 8-1 victory over sophomore Annika Chai (London, England) and first year Jaskirat Kaur (Mohali, India).

Wellesley closed out the match with victories at No. 4 and 5 singles from C. DeAgazio and Pak. Pak won a flawless 6-0, 6-0 match versus Vavra while C. DeAgazio earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smith.
