Blue Tennis Perfect Against Emerson, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis swept Emerson College 9-0 to win a NEWMAC match at the Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts on Tuesday.

The Blue (7-4 Overall, 2-1 NEWMAC) earned all three points in doubles over the Lions (4-12 Overall, 1-6 NEWMAC). Wellesley followed up its hot start by winning six out of six singles matches.

Seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) got an early win at No. 1 doubles. The duo defeated grad student Sammi Perry (Newport Beach, Calif.) and senior Gabrielle McGovern (Woodbridge, Conn.) 8-1.

Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) grabbed an 8-5 victory over senior Susie-Jane Wilson (Charleston, S.C.) and first year Evlin Walsh (Shoreline, Wash.) at No. 3 doubles. 

First years Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) completed the sweep by winning 8-6 at No. 3 doubles over grad student Sophie Oglensky (West Long Branch, N.J.) and first year Chase Stinson (San Antonio, Texas).

First year Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) was near perfect for the Blue in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Walsh at No. 6 singles. Xu locked up the match for Wellesley with an identical scoreline over Perry at No. 2 singles.

Alviar secured a 6-2, 6-0 point against Oglensky at No. 3 singles. Pak followed suit with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over McGovern at No. 4 singles.

Mu and first year Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) collected wins at No. 1 and 5 singles. Mu won 6-4, 6-1 against Wilson. Madhusudan grabbed a 6-3, 6-0 win over first year Amaya Briones (Mexico City, Mexico)

Next up, Wellesley plays at Mount Holyoke at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 19. Emerson hosts Clark at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 20.
