Wellesley Track and Field Qualifies Seven for Post-Season Competition

BOSTON, Mass – Wellesley Track and Field had a productive Friday night, facing Division I, II, and III athletes at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.

Six Wellesley athletes met ECAC standards at the Valentine Invitational and seven qualified for the New England DIII Championships. Leading the way was Mary Keenan, who ran a personal record of 10:04.75 in the 3000m, currently the 19th fastest time in D-III and quick enough to qualify for the ECAC Championships, the New England DIII Championships, and the All-New England Championships. Sharon Ng also qualified for ECACs and the New England D-III Championships with a PR, recording a 2:21.26 in the 800m.

Two 500m runners and one 400m sprinter met the New England DIII and ECAC standards. Kendra Waters clocked a PR of 1:19.18 in the 500, followed by Caitlin Bailey in 1:21.59. Both will advance to the championship meets. Isabella Narvaez also met both marks with a blistering 59.60 in the 400.

Rounding out the post-season qualifiers, Emma Scalisi leaped 10.40m (34'1.5") in the triple jump and Kathleen Hanlon recorded a 1:01.80 in the 400m to secure spots at the New England D-III Championships.

Sheena Dupuy also had a strong Friday night, notching a long jump PR of 4.71m (15'5.5"). And on Saturday, the distance medley relay of Priyanka Fouda, Waters, Ng, and Keenan, finished 15th overall, with an ECAC-qualifying time of 12:17.57, good for 11th in D-III this season.

Wellesley track and field will compete in Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT on Saturday, and will return to action on Feb 15, at the Cupid Challenge Invitational at Tufts University.
