Wellesley Track and Field Competes at New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track team competed at the 2014 Division III New England Championships on Saturday at Springfield College.

Wellesley recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at the event, and finished 26th overall.

Leading the way for the Blue were sophomores
Priyanka Fouda and Sharon Ng, who each earned top-10 placements. Fouda won her section of the mile run, recording a time of 5:10.07. She ranked sixth overall and earned a spot on the podium. Ng finished ninth overall in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:22.90.

Wellesley first-years
Mary Keenan and Isabella Narvaez also fared well at their first New England Championships, both recording 11th-place finishes. Keenan completed the mile in 5:13.42, while Narvaez ran a 1:00.39 in the 400-meter dash.

First-year
Emma Scalisi, sophomore Caitlin Bailey, and Wellesley's 4x400-meter relay team also recorded top-20 finishes for the Blue. Scalisi ranked 17th (10.20m) in the triple jump, while Bailey finished 18th (1:44.55) in the 600 meter run. Wellesley's relay team of junior Kathleen Hanlon, Narvaez, Ng, and junior Kendra Waters paired up to finish 16th in 4:14.57.

Rounding out the highlights for the Blue, Wellesley had a pair of top-25 finishes in both the 400-meter dash and the 3000 meter run. In the 400, Waters placed 21st in 1:01.87, while Hanlon ranked 23rd in 1:02.27. In the 3000, sophomore Alessandra Gavin was 21st in 10:54.17, while first-year Sara Vannah was 23rd in 10:56.24.

Wellesley track and field is back in action on Friday and Saturday when qualified athletes will compete at the New England Open Championships at Boston University.
