Fouda's Win Leads Blue T&F at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Led by a win from sophomore Priyanka Fouda, the Wellesley College track and field team recorded 15 top-10 finishes at the 2014 Brown University Invitational on Saturday.

Running the 5,000 meters, Fouda led a pack of four Wellesley competitors who all placed in the top-10 in the event. Fouda finished in a time of 18:01.64, qualifying her to compete in the ECAC and New England Division III Championships. Also recording top-10 finishes in the event were senior
Doris Berman (8th- 18:52.10), sophomore Carolyn Chelius (19:20.62) and junior Nicole Chui (19:27.40). 

Wellesley also had a pack of top finishes in the 400-meter dash, where first-year Isabella Narvaez and juniors Kendra Waters and Kathleen Hanlon all placed in the top eight. Narvaez was the second Division III finisher in the field, placing sixth overall in a time of 59.81. Waters was seventh overall, finishing in 1:01.07, while Hanlon placed eighth in a time of 1:01.66. 

The Blue also had a pair of top-10 finishes in the 3,000-meter run, where first-year Sara Vannah and senior Ali Grzywna competed. Vannah was the top Division III finisher, recording a 11:16.04 to rank fourth overall, while Grzywna was sixth in a time of 11:28.19. 

Rounding out the top individual finishes on the track side, was a third place finish from sophomore
Caitlin Bailey, and top-15 finishes from sophomore Sharon Ng and first-year Edie Sharon. Bailey placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, recording a time of 1:08.44. Ng was the second Division III finisher in the 800 (2:19.73), while Sharon placed 12th in the mile with a 5:32.32.

In the field events, the Blue collected two ninth place finishes and a pair of top-15 finishes. Senior
Sheena Dupuy was ninth in the long jump, with a best distance of 4.67m. First-year Emma Scalisi was ninth in the triple jump, with a best effort of 9.82m. 

Senior
Zoe Sobel and first-year Susannah Perkins rounded out the field event highlights with their top-15 performances in the shot put. Sobel ranked 13th with a throw of 9.21m, while Perkins was 14th with a 8.71m. 

Wrapping up the competition highlights for the Blue, three Wellesley relay teams recorded top-10 finishes. In the 4x400m relay, Hanlon, Narvaez, Ng and Waters teamed up for a fifth place time of 4:08.13, while the 4x100m team of Dupuy, Narvaez, Hanlon and Waters ranked sixth in 50.66. Wellesley's second 4x400m relay team of first-years Kelsey Cathcart and Kathryn Leahy, and seniors Jane Lodwick and Sarah Roundy, placed 10th overall in 4:38.91.

Wellesley track and field is back in action next weekend with a pair of events. The Blue will send athletes to Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, and also compete at the Conn. College Stiffin Invitational on Saturday.
