All-Region Nod for Zhou as Blue Track & Field Competes at Open New Englands

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- First-year Alice Zhou earned All-New England honors as the Wellesley College track and field team had three individuals and two relays competing at the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Championships. The event featured the top runners from Divisions I, II and III, and it was hosted by Westfield State University.

Zhou finished in eight place overall, and second among Division III competition in the 10,000-meter event. The rookie finished in a time of 37:58.86 to earn a podium finish and All-New England status. Zhou also surpassed the ECAC qualifying mark by over two seconds.

Wellesley sophomores Priyanka Fouda and Alessandra Gavin also hit ECAC qualifying standards at the event. Fouda ran an 18:06.41 in the 5,000-meter run, while Gavin clocked in at 11:58.85 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Both of Wellesley's relay teams also finished in ECAC qualifying times. In the 4x100m relay, senior Sheena Dupuy, first-year Isabella Narvaez, and juniors Kathleen Hanlon and Kendra Waters teamed up to run a 50.85. In the 4x400m relay, sophomore Caitlin Bailey, and Waters, Narvaez, and Hanlon, combined for a time of 4:04.24.

Qualified Wellesley athletes will next head to Troy, N.Y. to compete at the 2014 ECAC Division III Championships next weekend.
