Blue Track and Field’s Doyle Breaks Javelin Record at Emory Thrills in the Hills

ATLANTA, Ga. - Senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) set a new program record in the javelin throw as Wellesley College track and field opened their outdoor season on Friday in the first half of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational from George W. Woodruff P.E. Center. 

Wellesley currently sits in a tie for seventh place with 22.5 points while host Emory leads the competition with 52.5 points.

Doyle broke Wellesley's program record by over three meters with a distance of distance of 34.16m to place fourth in the fourth in the javelin throw.

Also impressive were the performances of first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) and senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.), who took the top-two spots in the 1500m race with times of 4:48.46 and 4:51.75.

The Blue's winning ways continued in the 5000m event with first year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) leading the pack with 19:03.17. Classmate Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) also earned Wellesley points by placing seventh with a 20:40.54.

Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) earned points by placing sixth in the 400m hurdle event with a time of 1:08.94. First year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) also finished sixth in the long jump with a 5.18m jump.

The Blue will compete in the second half of Emory Thrills in the Hills tomorrow beginning at 10:00 AM.
