Track and Field Sixth at Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Wellesley College track and field placed sixth out of 13 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday.

Host Coast Guard took first with 170 points, followed by Connecticut College (108), Babson (56), Westfield State (56), Trinity (55), and then Wellesley (49), just a half point ahead of Smith (48.5).

Senior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) ran a personal-best 4:53.71, good for third place, in the 1500m event. First year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) also had a PR with a 4:59.67 to take eighth in the race. 

Also taking third was sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 1:08.64.

First year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) earned fourth place in the long jump with a 5.03m. 

Wellesley's 4x100m relay team of junior Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.) Klingensmith, senior Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.) and sophomore Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) took third with a time of 51.01, within a second of winning Coast Guard.

Ogah and classmate Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) took sixth and seventh in the 100m dash with times of 13.19 and 13.22 respectively. 

Senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) took sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.92m. Doyle also pointed in discus throw with a distance of 33.31m. First year Charlie Barron grabbed points for the Blue in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.15. 

Wellesley's 4x400m relay team of Fitzgerald, first year Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.), Barron, and first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) took fourth with a 4:12.60.

The Blue will compete at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College next Friday and Saturday.
