Wellesley Track & Field Finishes 17th at New England Division III Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) and first year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) earned points on Saturday for Wellesley College track & field, who finished tied for 17th place at the New England Division III Championship at Blake Track & Field.

MIT was dominant with 135 points to win the New England Division III Championship. Tufts (75), Middlebury (67), Bowdoin (51), and Coast Guard (49) rounded out the top five.

Murphy-Weise and Whinney placed fifth and sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with times of 10:59.81 and 11:10.08 respectively. Both runners shattered their previous bests and Murphy-Weise's time was Wellesley's fastest in the event since 2019.

Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) earned 10th in the 400 meter hurdles, tying a PR with a 1:06.85. Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) threw for 32.44m in the discus throw event, good for 21st place.

Next Friday and Saturday, the Blue will be competing in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championship, hosted by Northeastern University at Solomon Outdoor Track in Dedham, Mass.
