Wellesley Track & Field’s Whinney Wins 3000m Steeplechase at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley College track & field sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) won the 3000m Steeplechase event on the first day of the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College.

Whinney's time of 11:21.61 was nearly 13 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Classmate Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) claimed fourth out of 13 with a personal-best time of 11:47.07.

Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) threw for a distance of 32.84m in the Discus Throw to finish sixth out of 38 competitors. Sophomore Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) crushed her personal-best with a distance of 31.59m to earn eighth.

Sophomore Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) received four points with a sixth place finish in the 10000m. Brydges' time of 38:34.59 currently ranks 50th in Division III.

Classmtaw Megan Cunningham (Portland, Maine) placed 14th in the 1500m race with a time of 5:10.55.

The second day of the Silfen Invitational begins tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
