Doyle, 4x400m Relay Earns Wins as Blue Track & Field Places Sixth at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) and the 4x400m Relay earned event wins as Wellesley College track & field finished sixth out of 22 teams at the Silfen Invitational on Saturday.

Doyle broke her own record in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 38.76m. Doyle captured first in the event. She later set a personal-best distance of 33.70m in the Hammer Throw.

The Blue won the 4x400m Relay event with a time of 4:15.12. The team consisted of sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.), junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.), and sophomores Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) and Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.).

Coast Guard won the team competition with 133 points. Host Connecticut College claimed second with 113 points. New Haven rounded out the top three with 94 points.

Wellesley's 4x100m Relay team of Junior Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India), seniors Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.), and junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) took fifth with a time of 50.73.

Sophomore Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) won her heat of the 1500m event with a time of 5:11.81.

Barron and senior Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) both had top-10 finishes in the 400m. Barron was fifth with a time of 1:01.14. Darcy ran a time of 1:03.18 to take ninth place.

Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) captured 10th in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.84m.

In the 400m Hurdles, Fitzgerald ran a time of 1:14.02.

Wellesley takes on Mount Holyoke and Smith in a tri-meet at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, April 20.
