Blue Volleyball Concludes Play at Hall of Fame Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball concluded play at the 2014 Hall of Tournament, dropping a pair of matches to Tufts University and Bowdoin College. Tufts earned a 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23) victory in Wellesley's first match of the day before Bowdoin topped the Blue 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-12). 

Wellesley now stands at 14-10 overall following the two-day event featuring 16 of the top Division III teams in New England. Results from all of the matches can be found at: smithpioneers.com/2014hoftournament

Match One: Tufts 3, Wellesley 1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23)

Sydney Carfagno put down 20 kills on 37 attempts for the Blue in match one, turning in a performance that helped to earn her a spot on this year's All Tournament Team (A complete list of All-Tournament recipients is listed below). Carfagno also tied with Katie Yan for team-high honors with 12 digs in the match. 

Caitlin Laughlin also added nine kills for the Blue while Maddie Koh finished with 34 assists and six digs. Lindsey Menichella and Courtney Lang also added three kills apiece, while Taylor Jais added 11 digs for Wellesley. 

Match Two: Bowdoin 3, Wellesley 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-12)

Carfagno again led the way in the second match of the day, putting down a match-high ten kills for the Blue. Jais added 18 digs to finish as the only Wellesley player with a double-digit dig total versus Bowdoin. 

The Polar Bears got eight digs from Clare Geyer and six apiece from Halley Wahl and Christy Jewett. Jewett earned a spot on the All Tournament Team for her play on the weekend. Katie Doherty collected a match-high 22 digs to help Bowdoin improve to 19-6 on the season. 

The Blue will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this week, beginning with a match on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at Coast Guard. The Blue will then close out the regular season when they host Springfield at 1:00 PM next Saturday.
