Wellesley's Gedney, Seebold, Doerges Earn AVCA All-Region Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 2019 Division III Regional Awards on Thursday and Wellesley College junior Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) and sophomores Izzy Seebold (Concord, N.C.) and Nicole Doerges (San Marino, Calif.) were each recognized. Gedney and Seebold were named to All-New England Region team, while Doerges was an Honorable Mention All-New England Performer.

Gedney earns the second AVCA All-Region Team honor of her career (2018) while leading the Blue with career highs in kills (419), kills per set (4.19), attack percentage (.320) and total blocks (64). Also an AVCA Honorable Mention All-Region selection as first year in 2017, Gedney finished the 2019 regular season first in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in total kills and second in kills per set en route to her third consecutive All-Conference recognition and first All-Conference first team selection in 2019. Earlier this season, she recorded the 1,000th kill of her Wellesley career in five-set win of Amherst on Oct. 18. 

Izzy Seebold | SO | Concord, N.C. | AVCA All-New England Region Team

Seebold has totaled 1,028 assists, 10.18 assists per set, 53 aces, and 193 digs in 27 matches as a sophomore to earn AVCA All-New England Region Team honors for the first time in her career. She is the first Wellesley player with 1,000+ assists in a season since Victoria Peng '11 in 2008 (1,445) and finished the year ranked second in the NEWMAC in assists per set and fifth in aces per set. She has recorded at least 30 assists in 22 of Wellesley's 27 matches this season and has topped the 50 assist plateau four times, including a career-high 60 on Sept. 14 vs. Endicott. 

Nicole Doerges | SO | San Marino, Calif. | AVCA All-New England Region Honorable Mention

A versatile offensive and defensive contributor, Doerges has 10 kill-dig double-doubles to date and has totaled 301 kills, 250 digs, and 56 service aces in 101 sets played in 2019. The AVCA All-Region recognition is the first for Doerges, who also earned her first NEWMAC All-Conference nod and was a New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-Rookie selection in 2018. 

Wellesley plays Brockport in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship today at 5:30 PM in Potsdam, N.Y.
