Wellesley's Gedney, Seebold Named Honorable Mention AVCA All-Americans

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced the 39th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball and Wellesley College volleyball junior Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) and sophomore Izzy Seebold (Concord, N.C.) have each been named honorable mention All-Americans. The honorable mention selection is the second for Gedney and the first for Seebold.

An honorable mention AVCA All-American selection in 2018, Gedney earns her second consecutive honorable mention nod following a season where she also earned New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team All-Conference, AVCA Division III All-Region, and NEWVA All-Region First Team honors. Gedney finished the year with a career-high 444 kills (4.15 kills/set) in 107 sets played. Gedney added career-highs in blocks (71) and total points scored (482.5), while concluding the season ranked in the top-30 in the NCAA in attacks per set, blocks per set, kills per set, and points per set.

Izzy Seebold | SO | Concord, N.C. | AVCA Honorable Mention All-American

Seebold finished the year with a career-high 1,101 assists, averaging 10.19 assists per set, to go along with 56 aces, and 215 digs in 108 sets played. Seebold earned NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference, AVCA All-Region, and NEWVA All-New England Second Team honors in her second full season for the Blue, finishing the season ranked 17th in the NCAA in assists per set and 21st in total assists. Seebold was also 48th in the nation in service aces. 

The 2019 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division III All-America Committee: Tim Byram, Endicott, chairperson; Hilda Arrechea (Skidmore), Lindsay Birch (Christopher Newport), Christi Kelsey (Williams), Deb Kiick (Millikin), Danny Miller (Averett), Caitlin Moriarty (Berry), Mary Kate Salko (Franklin & Marshall), Kurt Vlasich (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Amber Warners (Calvin), DeAnn Woodin (Coe).
