Blue Volleyball Falls to Suffolk at ENC Invitational

QUINCY, Mass. – Sophomore Jess Weber (Miami, Fla.) tallied 13 kills to lead Suffolk University to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-14) win over Wellesley College volleyball on day one of the Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) Invitational at the Lahue Athletic Center.

Suffolk (1-0 overall) also got 10 kills and nine digs from sophomore McKenna Keowen (San Ramon, Calif.) and six kills on nine attempts from sophomore Alina Nowakowski (Mansfield, Mass.). The Rams finished the contest with a.338 attack percentage as Harmony Johnson orchestrated the offense with 34 assists. Kenzley Bell (Lake Park, Ga.) finished with a match-high 11 digs.

Junior Kate Salembier (Sierra Madre, Calif.) and sophomore Jennifer Yu (Shanghai, China) each finished with eight kills for Wellesley (0-1 overall), with Yu adding eight digs. Junior Kara Jenkins (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked-up a team-best eight digs for the Blue and sophomore setter Mikayla Tansil (Warren, Mich.) added 22 assists.

Three consecutive aces from Morgan Kesley (Parker, Colo.) helped Suffolk break a 22-all tie at the end of the first set to take the early lead in the match. Trailing 17-16 in the second set, the Rams rattled off four consecutive points to take a 21-16 lead. Suffolk never looked back, closing out the middle game with a 25-19 victory. Suffolk went on to close out the match with a commanding 25-14 victory in the third set.

Both teams will continue play at the ENC Invitational on Saturday. Wellesley will play Me.-Presque Isle at noon and the host Lions 4:00 PM, while Suffolk will open the day against Eastern Nazarene at 10:00 AM and conclude play against Me.-Presque Isle at 2:00 PM.
