Cross Country Takes 19th at New England's
BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College cross country team ranked 19th out of a field of 47 schools competing at the all-division New England Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship on Saturday. The Blue finished sixth among Division-III schools at the event, held at Franklin Park.
The 19th-place finish was the program's highest at New Englands since 2005. In addition, the Blue's top-five runner's total time of 1:36:14 was Wellesley's best ever at this event.
All five of Wellesley's top runners posted career-bests on the Franklin Park course. Leading the way for the Blue, Randelle Boots took 35th place (18:31) in the field of 322 finishers. Leah Clement was next across the line for Wellesley, taking 82nd place in 19:06.
Other top runners for the Blue were Camille Basurto, who took 104th place in 19:19, while Molly Shanley ran a 19:28 to finish 115th. Rounding out the finishers for Wellesley, Cristina Lucas was 156th (19:50), Margaret Wehner finished 233rd (20:57) and Adiba Manning placed 247th (21:09).
Wellesley next races at the 2010 Seven Sisters Championships on October 16th at Vassar College.
