Clement, Cross Country Team Dominate Fens Classic

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College Cross Country team dominated the 3rd Annual Fens Classic hosted by Emmanual College. The Blue took the team title, while senior Leah Clement won the individual title at the two mile event.

The meet featured teams from four different colleges and universities, with the course winding through trails along the Muddy River, through the Fens and ending with a lap of the track circling Roberto Clemente Field. The Blue tore through the women's field, placing seven runners in the top ten, en route to a team win.

Clement smashed the course record with a winning time of 11:59.50. The previous course best stood at 13:13:06.

Finishing just behind Clement were first-year Vanessa Wilkins (12:07.03), sophomore Skye Roberts (12:08.08) and junior Ada Smith (12:23.10). Wilkins was running in her first collegiate race, as were Alexandra Dunn (12:33.80), Chloe Emerson (12:36.90) and Nicole Chui (12:38.00), who finished in sixth through eighth places.

Sophomore Doris Berman (12:48.60) took 13th while first-year Taylor Bickford (12:50.03) and junior Eden Bass (13:04.60) each finished in the top 20.

Rounding out the Wellesley finishers, senior Amy Wolkin took 21st in 13:12.10, while first-year Alice Sun placed 22nd in 13:13.90.

The Blue finished with 16 team points, while Roger Williams took second with 51 points. Emmanuel and Wheelock rounded out the team finishes in third and fourth.

Up next for Wellesley, the team will compete at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday at 11:00am.
