Blue Cross Country Takes Smith Invitational Team Title

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College cross country team won their second team title in as many weeks, finishing with top honors at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday.

The Blue placed four runners in the top ten, finishing with 29 points and outpacing a field of 16 teams. Coast Guard took second with 34 points, while the next closest competitor, Salve Regina, totaled 109 points.

Individually, Wellesley was led by junior Camille Basurto who took second place in a field of 181 runners. Her time of 20:00.45 was narrowly behind Coast Guard's Beth Gollin, won the 5K race in 19:43.94.

Also finishing in the top-ten for the Blue were junior Cristina Lucas, senior Molly Shanley and first-year Vanessa Wilkins. Lucas took fourth in 20:22.65, Shanley took fifth in 20:27.76, while Wilkins placed seventh in 20:29.65.

Other strong finishers for Wellesley were sophomore Skye Roberts (11th - 20:53.59), junior Ada Smith (14th - 21:03.64) and first-year Nicole Chui (18th - 21:08.53).

Wellesley next competes at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, taking place on Saturday at 11:15am.
