Wellesley XC Finishes Third at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Wellesley College cross country team raced to a third place finish at the 2011 UMass Dartmouth Shriners Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning. The Blue competed against 37 total teams in the 5k race.

Individually, Wellesley was led by Leah Clement who finished fourth overall in the field of 258 runners. The senior finished the race in a time of 18:31.98, behind the top finisher Brooke Johnson of MIT, who ran a 17:54.35.

Also finishing in the top-20 for Wellesley were junior Camille Basurto and first-year Vanessa Wilkins. Basurto recorded a time of 18:59.06, while Wilkins ran the course in 19:14.84.

Other top finishers for the Blue included sophomore Skye Roberts, junior Ada Smith and first-year Nicole Chui. Roberts took 41st in a time of 19:46.42, while Smith took 42nd in 19:47.94. Chui ended the race in 47th with a time of 19:55.75.

In the team scoring, MIT took first place with 25 points. Coast Guard took second, with 109 points, while the Blue took third with 114 total points.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, September 24th, racing at Boston's Franklin Park, competing in the Codfish Bowl.
