Wellesley Cross Country Captures Third at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Placing two runners in the top five, Wellesley cross country captured third in a strong ten-team field at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday in Brunswick, ME. The Blue finished with 87 points in the six-kilometer race, falling only to MIT (#3 in the nation) with 67 points and Bowdoin with 69.

Leah Clement led Wellesley, taking second in the 121-runner event with a time of 22:42.65. Clement's time, a 6k personal best by nearly two minutes, was just four seconds off the winner, Molly Carl, from Southern Maine. Camille Basurto also ran well for the Blue, finishing fourth overall in a time of 23:27.80.

Nicole Chui followed with a 24:34, good for 21st overall. Skye Roberts crossed the line in 28th with a 24:54, improving her 6k personal best by almost five minutes. Andrea Gumushian rounded out the scoring for the Blue in 33rd with a time of 25:06. Vanessa Wilkins followed two seconds later in 34th at 25:08. Margaret Wehner filled out Wellesley's top seven with a 25:13.

Another cluster of Blue crossed the line between 43rd and 48th place: Doris Berman (25:30), Alexandra Dunn (25:40), Chloe Emerson (25:49), Eden Bass (25:54), and Mina Juhn (25:55). Also running for Wellesley, Taylor Bickford finished 57th in 26:15 and Sarah Roundy took 70th in 26:42.

Wellesley cross country returns to action next Saturday, October 8, at 11am at Franklin Park, where they will compete in the New England Intercollegiate Championships.
