Clement Wins Seven Sisters XC Title; Blue Place 2nd
HAVERFORD, Pa. – In the 30th running of the Seven Sisters Championships, Leah Clement of Wellesley College edged Kelly Holmes of Vassar College by five tenths-of a second to win the annual championship hosted by Bryn Mawr College.
On the team side, after winning their first ever team title last year, Vassar College made it back-to-back titles as they bested Wellesley 33-59.
Clement finished the 5K event in 19:04.4 to give Wellesley back-to-back individual titles as fellow Wellesley runner Randelle Boots won last year's event hosted at Vassar. The win marks the fourth time in the 30-year history that a Wellesley runner took home first-place.
Smith's Caroline Kimball-Katz (19:36.84) and Swarthmore's Jen Johnson (19:45.21) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Vassar's Harper Cleves finished closely behind Johnson for eighth place with a time of 19:47.74. Vassar's Viviane Ford and teammate Samantha Creath rounded out the top ten with finishes of 19:55.99 and 19:56.71, respectively.
Other Blue runners included Ada Smith placing 19th overall in a time of 20:20.40, while Margaret Wehner and Vanessa Wilkins each recorded a time of 20:36.40 (25th, 26th). Rounding out the Wellesley scorers, Andrea Gumushian took 29th in a time of 20:45.02.
The Blue cross country team is back in action a week from today, hosting the 2011 Wellesley Invitational featuring Wheelock, Simmons and St. Joseph College.
