Shanley Named NEWMAC Runner of the Week

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Wellesley College senior Molly Shanley was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending October 23, 2011.

Shanley won the individual title at the 2011 Wellesley Invitational on Saturday, leading the Blue to a first place team finish. The senior bested the 31-runner field with a time of 19:57, 40 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

Wellesley finished the meet with 18 total points, outpacing runner-up Simmons who recorded 44 points.

Shanley's honor comes almost four years to the day that her sister, Kerry Shanley '08, earned NEWMAC Runner of the Week honors for winning the 2007 Wellesley Invitational. (2007 NEWMAC Release) The Wellesley Invitational victories marked the first collegiate win for each Shanley sister.

Wellesley is back in action on Sunday, as the Blue host the NEWMAC Championships at Franklin Park in Boston. Meet Information
