Cross Country Competes in 6K at Williams' Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wellesley College cross country team finished 13th overall against nationally-ranked competition at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College at Mount Graylock High School on Saturday.

Blue runners ran in packs, competing the 6K distance for the first time this season. A total of 215 runners finished the event, which was won by Middlebury's Addie Tousley in 21:50.

Wellesley's top three runners finished within 10 seconds of each other, as senior Sara Putterman, first-year Victoria Lee, and sophomore Vanessa Wilkins finished in 72nd, 77th, and 87th place respectively. Putterman finished in 24:20, followed by Lee in 24:22 and Wilkins in 24:30.

After the first three Wellesley finishers, a pair of first-year finishers rounded out the scoring for the Blue. Alessandra Gavin recorded a time of 25:08 to finish in 121st place, while Sharon Ng tallied a 25:19 to take 131st.

Also finishing strong for the Blue, were junior Doris Berman who ran a 25:54 and sophomore Alexandra Dunn, who finished in 26:06. Rounding out the top nine for the Blue, were juniors Jane Lodwick (26:17) and Skye Roberts (26:20).

In team scoring, Williams, ranked seventh nationally, took top honors with 78 points, followed by MIT (#1 nationally) with 83 and Middlebury (#6 nationally) with 87 points. Wellesley totaled 371 points at the event.

Next up for Blue Cross Country, the team will compete at the Pop Crowell Invitational next Saturday at 10:45am at Gordon College.
