Blue Cross Country Earns NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award, All-Conference Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its post-season awards this week. Wellesley was honored with the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award, while three Blue runners earned All-Conference awards.

Wellesley earned runner-up honors at Sunday's NEWMAC Championship, recording a team total of 70 points. Individually, Wellesley placed three runners on the NEWMAC All-Conference team in sophomore Priyanka Fouda, and first-years Sonja Cwik and Mary Keenan.

Fouda placed fourth overall, recording a time of 18:43.30, to earn her second straight All-NEWMAC Honor. Cwik recorded a 13th place finish in 19:06.44, while Keenan ran a 19:10.83, to place 14th overall.

In addition to the individual awards, Wellesley was honored with the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award. Voted upon by the league's student-athletes, the award recognizes the team that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct. Wellesley has won the sportsmanship award four out of the last five years.

Wellesley cross country is back in action at the 2013 ECAC Championships on Saturday. The event is being hosted by Roger Williams University.
