Wellesley Cross Country Runs to 7th Place at ECAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Led by an All-ECAC performance from senior Carolyn Chelius (Haddonfield, N.J.), Wellesley College cross country ran to a seventh place finish at the 2015 ECAC Championship at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass.

In all, 46 women's teams and 310 racers competed in the women's 6k run. Tufts University claimed the team title with a total of 45 points, followed by the University of New England with 63 points, and third-place Williams with 73 points. Wellesley totaled 169 points to finish in seventh in the team standings. 

Chelius recorded a time of 23.39.96 to finish as the only Wellesley runner in the top-14. Classmate Heather Smith (Southfield, Mich.) was the next across the line for the Blue, taking 28th place with a time of 24:15.62. Sophomore Taylor Fortnam (Portola Valley, Calif.) was less than ten seconds behind Smith with a 31st place time of 24:22.59.

Senior Laura Brindley (Mercer Island, Wash.) took fourth in 24:33.68, as four of the Blue's scoring runners finished inside the top-50 at the event. Sophomore Isabella King (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out the Wellesley top-five with a time of 24:59.40. Junior Sara Vannah (Amherst, Mass.) also cracked the top-100 at the event with a time of 25:42.43. 

Wellesley College cross country will now look forward to the 2015 NCAA New England Regional Championship at Harkness Memorial Park in New London, Conn. The Blue have finished in the top-10 at the last two NCAA regional championships, including a fifth place finish in 2014.
