Blue Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Team and Individual All-Academic Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College cross country has been named a 2015 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. In addition, seniors Priyanka Fouda (Wellesley, Mass.), junior Sonja Cwik (La Cañada) and seniors Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Alessandra Gavin (Annapolis, Md.) have each been named 2015 NCAA Division III All-Academic Individuals.

For a team to earn All-Academic honors, the squad must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of of 3.1 or better. For individuals to earn All-Academic recognition, they must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional.

This fall, the Blue sported a cumulative team GPA of 3.44, finishing in fifth place at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship. Fouda was Wellesley's top finisher taking 11th place with a time of 22:02.7. Cwik earned 40th with a time of 22:33.2, while Ng was 55th in 22:55.1, and Gavin was in 86th at 23:29.5.

In total, 207 women's teams earned All-Academic honors, while 352 women from 207 teams nabbed USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic honors.

Wellesley cross country finished the season with a 19th place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships, making the program's fourth all-time appearance at the event.
