Blue Cross Country Runs To Third Place at Bates Super XC Shootout

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine – Senior Edie Sharon (Winchester, Mass.) led the way with a ninth place finish as Wellesley College cross country took third overall at the 2016 Bates Super Cross Country Shootout. 

Tufts University took the team title with a score of 105, followed by the host Bobcats in second place with a score of 170, Wellesley (289) in third and WPI (317) in fourth. The top-ten runners for each team contributed to the overall team score in the meet.

Sharon finished with a time of 19:29.4, taking ninth overall in the field of 65. Senior classmates Sara Vannah (Amherst, Mass.) and Sonja Cwik (La Cañada, Calif.) weren't far behind, with the Blue placing three in the top 14 overall. Vannah finished in 13th with a time of 19:38.8, while Cwik was 14th in 19:40.1.

First year Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt.) and junior Taylor Fortnam (Portola Valley, Calif.) were the fourth and fifth runners across the line for the Blue, taking 23rd and 37th place respectively. Paradiso finished in 20:03.8 and Fortnam completed the course in 20:48.8.

Senior Alice Zhou (Sunnyvale, Calif.) was 50th with a time of 21:27.3, while sophomore Catherine Xie (Newton, Mass.) was 55th in 22:22.5. First years Elizabeth Lambert (Kensington, Md.) and Sophie Dolan (Austin, Texas) finished in 57th (22:31.1) and 60th (22:42.5), respectively, and junior Clare Salerno (Johnson, Vt.) rounded out the Wellesley team with a time of 23:29.5.

Wellesley cross country returns to action next Saturday, September 24, at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick, Maine.
