Wellesley's Hamilton, Mitropoulos Garner NEWMAC All-Conference Accolades

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2017 Field Hockey All-Conference team on Tuesday and Wellesley College senior Emmy Hamilton (New York, N.Y.) and junior Arielle Mitropoulos (Cambridge, Mass.) have each earned All-Conference recognition. Hamilton was named to the All-Conference first team, while Mitropoulos earned a place on the All-Conference second team.

Hamilton receives her first NEWMAC All-Conference first team honor in 2017 after garnering a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference second team in both 2015 and 2016. Splitting time between the midfield and defense, Hamilton recorded career-highs in both goals, with four, and assists, with five, during the 2017 season. Hamilton scored the game-winner in Wellesley's 4-0 win at Clark on September 30th and registered the game-tying goal at the end of regulation in Wellesley's thrilling 4-3 OT win at Wheaton, helping the Blue secure a playoff spot.

Mitropoulos was Wellesley's leading scorer during the 2017 season, establishing a career-high with 12 goals while scoring the game-winning goal in three of Wellesley's eight victories this season. She earned NEWMAC Co-Offensive and NFHCA Division III National Offensive Player of the Week honors during the week of October 30th, after scoring five goals in two games, including the OT game-winner against Wheaton on October 28th. She ended the year by scoring six goals in four games, including the only Wellesley goal in a NEWMAC semifinal setback to MIT.

Wellesley field hockey finished the season with an 8-12 overall record, going 3-5 in the NEWMAC regular season. Wellesley defeated Smith, 3-0 in the conference quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
