Wellesley Crew Races Strong at the Head of the Charles


BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College crew team had a solid weekend of racing, competing at the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The event, the largest two-day regatta in the world, featured over 8,000 athletes from around the world competing in 55 different events.

Wellesley entered crews into both the collegiate fours and the collegiate eights events.

On Saturday, the Blue's four finished 13th overall, rowing in a field of of 33 boats. The crew, made up of coxswain Aidan Chambers, and rowers Emily Cetlin, Kathryn Seminario, Conisha Cooper and Shernaz Dossabhoy, posted a time of 21:00.25. 

On Sunday, Wellesley's eight boat took fourth overall, matching last year's finish to tie the program's best. The Blue finished the race in a time of 17:32.6, coming in behind only defending NCAA National Champion Williams, National Runner-Up Bates, and Division-II Grand Valley State, last year's event winner. 29 total boats entered the collegiate eight race. 

The Blue's eight entry consisted of coxswain Emma Kaufman, and rowers Ali Pierson, Patty SuquilandaRachel Coogan, Jessica Frey, Caroline Dodge, Lyndsey Abt, Kathryn Goffin, and Taylor Black

Based on this weekend's results, the Blue have now sealed their qualification into next year's Head of the Charles event.

Wellesley returns to the water on Saturday, October 29th at the Seven Sisters Championship hosted by Smith College.
