Blue Crew Wins Seven Sisters Championship

HADLEY, Mass. – With a dominating effort in all four races, the Wellesley College crew team took home the team title at the 2011 Seven Sisters Championship Regatta. The Blue swept each race to piled up 40 points, for their third consecutive Seven Sisters title. This season's event was hosted by Smith College at Sportsman's Marina in Hadley, MA.

Wellesley's sweep of every event marks the first time that has happened since the 1998 regatta. 

Rounding out the five team field were Simmons College (30), Mount Holyoke (22), Smith College (20), and Bryn Mawr (6).

Wellesley was led by Conisha Cooper and Taylor Black who were all selected as All-Seven Sisters award winners on the varsity side, while Sydney Dollmeyer represented the Blue on the All-Seven Sisters novice team.

Wellesley grabbed top honors in the first varsity eight race with a commanding performance. Starting fifth on the line, the Blue passed each crew before cruising to the open-water victory. Wellesley clocked in at 17:42, while runner-up Mount Holyoke posted a time of 18:26. Simmons was third at 18:45, Smith fourth at 18:49 and Bryn Mawr fifth at 18:59.

In the second varsity eight, the Blue again took top honors with a winning time of 19:00, followed by Simmons in 19:03, Smith in 19:16, and Mount Holyoke in 19:40.  All four schools entered second boats in the race, with Smith B coming in fifth (20:41), followed by Mount Holyoke B (20:57), Wellesley B (21:14), and Simmons B (21:17).

The first novice eight was also won by Wellesley, who crossed the line in 20:08, with Simmons right behind in 20:11.  Mount Holyoke took third place, in 20:35, and Smith was fourth in 21:06.  Bryn Mawr captured fifth place in 24:28.

The Blue made it a clean sweep by winning the second novice eight in 20:40, with Simmons (22:20), Smith (22:35), and Mount Holyoke (22:52) rounding out the rest.

The Blue have now completed the fall portion of their 2011-12 slate. They will resume their schedule in the spring.
