Third-Ranked Blue Crew Opens Spring with Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The third-ranked Wellesley College crew team opened the spring portion of their season with a win over host Washington College Saturday morning on the Chester River.

Competing in a 2,000-meter race in windy and rain-soaked conditions, Wellesley's "A" boat came from behind to top the Shorewomen's "A" boat by three seconds, 6:33-6:36.

Wellesley's "B" boat was third in a time of 7:05, while Washington's "B" boat was fourth in 7:32.

The Blue are ranked #3 in Division III in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. Wellesley sits behind only Williams and Bates who finished 1-2 at last year's NCAA Rowing Championships.

The Blue also lead five NEWMAC schools on the list, placing ahead of Coast Guard (6th), Mount Holyoke (10th), WPI (11th), and Smith (15th). The NESCAC is second in terms of conference representation on the national poll with four ranked teams.
