Kaufman Selected to Prestigious USRowing Rookie Camp

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College coxswain Emma Kaufman was one of 24 athletes invited to the prestigious USRowing 2012 Women's Freshman Camp. Kaufman, a native of Norwich, Vt., is one of only two Division III selections.

The camp, which is hosted by the University of Washington from June 11-17, targets athletes with elite potential who have only been rowing for one or two years. It serves as part of the identification and selection process for the United States national team. The goal of this camp is to expose the athlete to the U.S. National Team experience training 2-3 times per day, rowing in many boat categories, learning technical and physiological basics and training with athletes of a similar caliber.

In addition to Kauffman, a pair of WPI rowers, Maggie Freed and Emily Hofmeister, were placed on the wait list for the camp. Aside from the three New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) student-athletes, Caroline Walton of Hamilton College was the only other selection from a Division III crew program.
