Blue Crew Undefeated at Malden Spirit Regatta

MALDEN, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team took home the team title at the 2012 Malden Spirit Regatta, hosted by Tufts University on the Malden River. The Blue went undefeated at the event, winning every contested race.

In varsity eight action, Wellesley opened the racing with a 7:02.02 to 7:04.05 win over Simmons. In the grand final, the Blue cruised past Tufts, recording a time of 6:59.25 to the Jumbos' 7:22.45.

The Blue second varsity eight opened with a win over Simmons, posting a time of 7:19.89, while the Sharks finished in 7:34.28. In the grand final, Wellesley topped Smith, as the Blue finished in 7:26.49 to Smith's 7:40.17.

In novice racing, Wellesley blew by Smith's third varsity in the first race, recording a time of 7:40.69 to the Pioneers' 8:33.330. In the grand final, the Blue again came out on top, defeating Tufts, 7:23.32 to 7:43.00.

Wellesley also won the only varsity four race, recording a time of 8:22.77 to top Tufts' time of 8:33.68.

Blue crew is back in action next weekend at the 2012 New England Rowing Championships. The event will take place on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond.
